Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that focuses on creative problem solving for students in kindergarten through college. Teams of 5-7 students work together to creatively solve a long term problem and to practice spontaneous problem solving. The team members must solve the problem--coaches facilitate and guide the group, but can not provide any answers or solutions. This is a student driven process. The problems teams select from this year are:
Problem 1--Vehicle: Long Shot Solutions
Problem 2--Technical: Networking
Problem 3-- Classics: The Effective Detective
Problem 4--Balsa: Balsa Limbo
Problem 5--Dramatic: Gibberish or Not
Primary (K-2): The Fashion Bug
Each team will meet weekly throughout the school year until the State Competition at CVU on March 14, 2020. Winners have the opportunity to travel to Iowa State in May for the World Competition! (There is a cost for that trip which we try to cover through fundraising). The teams are facilitated by volunteers-so please consider helping coach a team. The number of teams we have is only limited by the number of volunteer coaches.
If you think you or your child may be interested, you can complete this form. We will be holding an information night along with a couple drop in events to help families better understand what it means to compete in Odyssey of the Mind. Please watch for more information from the PTO Weekly Emails. You can also check out

This program is supported by the Essex Town PTO.
