As Covid continues to surge, afflicting our friends and neighbors around Port Washington, the PTA's Outreach Committee recognizes that many in our school community may not have the local support networks to manage through this difficult time. You can help! Sign up to be a Manorhaven Covid Helper and volunteer a small amount of your time to run quick errands for quarantined families. Here's how it works:
- A fellow Manorhaven parent who cannot leave his/her home will submit a request for support--anything from picking up a prescription, to delivering some essential groceries or dropping off materials from school. Simple acts of kindness that those with strong networks in the community may take for granted.
- The request form will include a checklist of possible errands/activities. If a requester needs something that is not on the checklist, the PTA will work with him/her to determine if the request can be fulfilled before sharing with volunteers.
- Requests will be shared with the group of volunteers via text and email, and those able to fulfill it will respond; a volunteer will then be matched and connected directly with the requester.
- The requester and volunteer can communicate freely about the need; for errands requiring payment, the requester will be asked to pay the vendor in advance whenever possible.
- If advance payment is not possible, the requester and volunteer should agree on a reimbursement method before the request is fulfilled (Venmo, Zelle, cash, etc.) and the volunteer should communicate with the requester to confirm final pricing before making any payments on the requester's behalf.
- All deliveries will be contactless; volunteers will leave deliveries at the requester's front door and let him/her know (via text or doorbell) that the request has been fulfilled.
