The Weston Public Library is pleased to announce the launch of Weston Reads, a year-long initiative to promote the love of reading and provide community engagement for residents of all ages. Beginning February 22, 2022, the library will accept recommendations for book discussion titles in four categories:

  • Early Learners (Ages birth-6)
  • Kids (Ages 7-12)
  • Teens (Ages 13-18)
  • Adults ( Ages 18+).

The suggestions should be:

  • Published within the last five years;
  • Be able to sustain entertaining and meaningful discussions.

Library staff will choose the top six titles in each age group. Special consideration will be given to titles with a Fairfield county or Connecticut author or setting. Book discussions, programs and other special events will be planned around chosen titles, culminating in the Weston Reads Awards in the fall.

How to Successfully Navigate College Admissions in 2022

Wednesday, March 30 @ 8:00 PM via ZOOM.

3/30: Register Here

We are offering this Zoom presentation to help families understand how COVID-19 has changed the college admissions landscape and how it affects Juniors, Sophomores and Freshmen.

The recent college admissions cycle has turned out to be the most competitive to date. The reason is that most colleges went test-optional due to the pandemic and colleges increased their virtual outreach to high school students resulting in a record number of candidates applying. With record high numbers of applications come record low acceptance rates at many popular colleges and universities.

We will discuss the importance of researching and visiting colleges to find schools that can be a good fit for your child, a timeline and other actions steps that can be taken to make this spring productive regarding the college admissions process.

We’ll examine the holistic admissions review process, what admissions officers consider important when they review applicants, and how students can position themselves to develop a compelling narrative to increase their chances for admission.

We will also discuss the importance of community service, how it can provide an opportunity for personal growth and an opportunity to showcase a student’s character. Admissions officers place great emphasis on a student’s character and how the student has been able to give back and help others, especially during these challenging times.

The presentation will be led by Ron Feuchs and Jackie Tepper, partners at Stand Out For College, LLC. (www.standoutforcollege.com)

Don't Know What to Pick Up for Your Children & Teens? Use our Binge Box Option!

Need help selecting materials for your children/teens now that we offer Contactless Curbside pick-up?  Were you a shelf browser and now need help selecting books from home?  Use our binge boxes!

You will get an e-mail letting you know when your materials are ready and you will have 5 days to pick up at curbside during our general public open hours.

What is a binge box?

A binge box is a certain number of materials (books/dvds) surrounding a specific topic, theme, genre or author/book likeness for a certain age group.

How Does it Work?

We have you fill out a form with specific questions (found below) and submit it, Miss Alessandra will select materials for your child/teen after receiving this form. There are a few easy steps:

  1. Fill out our Children/Teen Binge Box Form HERE, or find it on our children and teen pages at westonpubliclibrary.org at a later date when you need it. This form allows you to answer questions so Miss Alessandra can select books/movies for you on themes like animals, shapes, sports, or more themes, based on genres such as mystery or science fiction or based on an author/book likeness. Please fill out a separate form for EACH child/teen you are requesting a binge box for.

  2. You will get an e-mail from Miss Alessandra letting you know when your materials are ready and how to pick them up either at curbside or grab and go. You will have 5 days from that date to pick them.

  3. Enjoy your materials!

Important Note:  Each form is single use.  This means you will not be getting weekly binge-boxes.  When you want another binge box you must go through the steps again and fill out another form.
